The Premier Rugby Sevens will be the first compensated domestic rugby league in North America, featuring contracted, paid players.
Both men's and women's teams will play under the same league branding and organization, and receive equal pay. Both the men's and women's league feature Olympians and other elite players from across the USA and Canada. Tryouts were held across the USA to fill the remaining roster spots, offering a pathway to elite play for new players.
We saw six brand-new rugby sevens teams founded for the league:
- The Experts
- The Headliners
- The Loggerheads
- The Loonies
- The Locals
- The Team
All but the last two have women's teams, and this inaugural season will run for one day, Oct 9, in Memphis, TN.
The 2021 Championship will mark the beginning of a new chapter in North American Rugby, and hopes to prove the concept for future professional rugby growth.
You can watch the games from the USA on Fox, TSN in Canada, and globally on the PR7 Facebook page.
